About Us

Hinkley Sport fishing is a small group of friends and family that love to fish in the beautiful waters of the Sea Of Cortez. My Dad, John Duitsman has been fishing in Baja since the 1960's. My first trip with Dad to the Sea Of Cortez side was in 1989. We started fishing San Felipe to Puertecitos and over the years tried, Ensenada, San Quintin, Bahia De Los Angeles, Santa Rosalia, San Marcos Island, Tortuga Island, Punta Chivato, Mulege, and Cabo San Lucas.

Fishing has been good in all these places, but the best and most consistent fishing, trip after trip has been in the Santa Rosalia area. We have caught Rooster fish, Dorado, and Yellowtail, within 100 yards of the marina. We have also caught Marlin within 1 mile of the marina. The North end of San Marcos Island is only about 8 miles from the marina and Tortuga Island is about 25 miles. This area is rich with life all year long. In the cooler months it is excellent for big yellowtail and grouper. In warmer months the Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Crevalle, Sierra and Roosterfish move in. Even in July and August big yellowtail are still caught if you drop down to deeper cooler water. In September we have caught marlin, sailfish, dorado and yellowtail in the same spot on the same day.

In 2009 we purchased land in San Bruno and built a 3 bedroom 2 bath house. San Bruno is a small fishing town 600 miles south of San Diego and 15 miles south of Santa Rosalia on the Sea of Cortez. San Bruno has a marina and a boat ramp and is only 5 miles from San Marcos Island.

Kids are welcome and enjoy other activities like snorkeling in the island caves, tubing, wakeboarding whale watching etc..

The marina in Santa Rosalia is new, clean, safe, 24hour security, showers, swimming pool and has an air conditioned room with internet access.

Our typical trip is 10 days. We will meet somewhere between Hinkley and San Diego and ride together. If we leave early enough we can make it in a day, otherwise it's El Rosario for crab soup and hotel for the night. The next day is the easy half, we like to leave early enough to get our poles and tackle ready, launch the boat and start fishing.

Hinkley Sport Fishing started with the Duitsman family and now includes many other super friends that have helped and contributed in many ways. Special thanks to Dave Turner who from the beginning always eager to help, paint, give, bleed, cook, advise, and donating everything from reels to freezers. Also special thanks to Bob Selby who helped with the design and building of the new ultimate fish camp "CASA BLANCA".
